Spring anime season is usually underwhelming… and 2021 was no exception. Not that there was nothing good to watch, it’s overshadowed by other seasons.
I havn’t been posting at all… maybe I got bored of it, or just had other things to attend to more.
What did I watch this season.
Boku no Hero Academia – season 5: Fairly good show to watch. I’m sure if I were younger I would like this show a lot more. There’s plenty to discuss in terms of character development, philosophical / sociological / psychological matters, and the action is pretty good too. A rank
Tokyo Revengers: Another “obtain better situation by time-leaping” show. Steins;gate and Higurashi does it so much better… and Boku dake ga inai machi too (except for the meh anime ending). The drama and suspense is alright I guess. B/C rank
Fumetsu no anata e: ehhhh I thought I would like this show. Maybe it’s because it’s slow, or because the protagonist literally you cannot relate to … since part of the premise is about the protagonist developing a self. Maybe it’ll get more interesting. I stopped episode 7 ish?
Ijiranaide, nagatoro-san: This somewhat deranged but somehow wholesome romantic comedy. The socially awkward and un-confident male with the also awkward but invasively peppy female… there are lots of lessons of social psychology and more… but I can’t but root for the pair. I actually liked this and may rewatch and would add it to my to-read manga list. Rank A.
Hige wo Soru, soshite joshikosei wo hirou: The most realistic but maybe not realistic drama of the season. Real personal problems, an unlikely meeting, forced developments, honest emotional/personal/relationship issues and growth. Better than expected. It looks like the source LN ended but I don’t know of the anime animated all of it. It’s worth a watch but I probably would not rewatch it. Rank B/C.
Isekai Maou to Shoukan … season 2: Isekai ecchi with (mostly) OP male protagonist. I watched it mostly on 2x speed. Mo’e and ecchi fodder for the season. Rank D.
Suraimu Taoshite Sanbyaku-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Reberu Makkusu ni Nattemashita: Died/born into a different world OP female protagonist Isekai + mo’e/kawaii all female cast + slice of life comedy. nichijō-kei + supernatural context. Wholesome. Top favorite seiyuu Aoi Yuuki. Rank B. It would be lower of Aoi Yuuki were not involved. She’s just so great.
Kumo desu ga, nani ka?: Best show of the season. Aoi Yuuki seals it, delivers, and takes it home. they could not have gotten a better voice actor for the role. The RPG sensibilities, the mystery, the clashing wills all deliver an intrigue that floats my boat. Rank S. I may end up reading the LNs… hope for the season 2!
There were a few others shows I sort of wanted to watch. Maybe I’ll get to them later.
But Summer 2021 is here!
Beloved! Higurashi No Naku koro ni sotsu
Kobayashi maid dragon s2
TenSura S2C2
and some others.
But Higurashi itself is enough to get my YES! Time to catch up with episodes 1-3
